ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI)
provides high capacity connections between PBX's and central
office facilities or other network switches. PRI's can
replace a T-1 facility for voice and/or data. With this
improved functionality, agencies can manage communications
and increase overall efficiency. PRI consists of 23 B
channels to transmit voice and data and one 64 Kbps Dchannel
to transmit control and signaling information. A PRI provides
1.544 Mbps of bandwidth.
The following options
are available for Primary Rate Interface:
Call-by-Call Service Selection (Dynamic
Call Allocation)
This unique feature optimizes
access lines and efficiently
allocates calling coverage
across all channels.
Calling Party Number
Allows the user to have
access to the directory number of
the calling party, where this
information is not blocked.
Multiple Facility Signaling Control (D-Channel
back up)
Back-up is crucial in
all systems, particularly those with
only one channel. With
D-Channel back-up, a second D- Channel
is provisioned on an alternate facility in case the active
D-Channel fails.
ISDN PRI can provide your agency with these benefits:
Simplicity:
One facility to access local toll and long distance.
Efficiency:
Every trunk available for every call - local, long
distance, voice, data, incoming
and outgoing. Carry more
traffic for same number
of lines. This allows you to carry
more traffic using fewer
trunks.
Data:
High speed digital data transmission.
Speed:
Faster connections with the high speed data
channel signaling and "look
ahead" routing capability.
Using PRI's call by call service selection
capability all trunks are available for all calls and
maximum efficiency is achieved. To meet unique customer
needs, ISDN PRI also support the following trunk types:
Direct Inward Dial (DID): Allows incoming calls to
be
terminated directly to
an extension behind a PBX without
the need for an attendant
to complete the call. The service
is one-way only.
Direct Outward Dial (DOD): Allows station users
behind customer premises
equipment (key system,
channel bank or PBX) to
dial directly out from their
extensions without the
assistance of an attendant. The
service is one-way only.
DID/DOD: Allows two-way trunking
DID and DOD calls to
be placed on each channel
within the group.
Combo: Allows two-way trunk group
for DOD dialing from station
users behind a PBX and incoming calls to an
attendant. The service
does not allow direct call
completion to a station
user behind a PBX.
